Another one from my senior year of highschool. This one is about a "ramjet" that Myself and a classmate made. And I use the word ramjet in the loosest sense of the term. This was far before I had an undestanding of thermodynamics and it produced negligible amounts of thrust. The chemistry class was getting an upgrade and was throwing out a variety of bunsen burners. I had a great idea: we could use these tubes to make a jet engine. so we selected a few different burners and I set out how I would build it. On this one I didn't do any real drawing, I just had a rough idea of how things would fit together. We could use one small bunsen burner as the fuel injector/flame holder. We could then surround this with an end to end welded set of larger bunsen burners. We would use the schools natural gas lines since that is what the bunsen burners were designed for and it was available. Finally it would be a ramjet so we would need to pass in high speed air at the front from an air compressor. So I took the parts to the school machine shop and welded the things together, cut some holes for things to fit through, and drilled holes in our flame holder. We also set it up on a little cart that we had laying around hoping we would get some thrust. We fired it up and it was super unstable and would go out without quickly, but once it started and we passed compressed air in it was fantastic. Hey... is that tape to space things out? Yes, yes it is. Is it a fire hazard? potentially... Nah, it's before the flame holder so this part is cool lmao.
